Religious Freedom in Myanmar/Burma: Burma is a multi-religious country in which there are a variety of different religions being practiced. There is no official state religion, however, this country is dominantly Buddhist and according to statistics, Buddhism is the primary religion that is being practiced and which is favored by the government/military junta.
The harsh reality that this country faces is the unjust treatment towards different ethnic groups and tensions between different minority groups for its aim is to obtain religious freedom; stopping the interference and violence towards the people in regards to their ethnicity and religion.

- Christianity, Islam and other religions have been threatened in different ways while a great amount of income was used to support Buddhism. The teaching in the Buddhist monasteries were all nationalized and emphasis were made, so that students will become extreme Burman Buddhist nationalists
- Churches, Temples and Mosque and sometimes their Churches were closed down by the military. Some of Christian missionaries schools were nationalized and the government took in charge of those schools.
- Many buddhist monks were extreme nationalists so they were very proud into showing discontent to other religions
In April 4 2013, it was reported by the genocide watch of the discrimination upon Rohingya minority groups and how they are not recognized as Myanmar citizenship. Without citizenship they were stripped from civil rights in Myanmar. Eg.
- The regime refuses to issue identification cards to Rohingya, which are necessary to be able to travel, as well as to obtain passports and enroll in higher education.
The largest minority ethnic groups in Burma are Burman, Karen, Shan, Kachin and Chin. The Rohingya people are not recognised by the government as an ethnic nationality of Burma, and thus suffer from some of the worst discrimination and human rights abuses of all the people of Burma
Rohingya is a minority group of Muslims who live in Burma. For decades they have struggled with discrimination, unjust treatment, and violance from the Buddhist population, government and the military junta. Outburst of violence, protests, and movements have occurred for their attempt to fight for freedom and justice within their country. There have been ongoing persecutions on these people.
Freedom on religion is an issue for this crisis since these minority groups are not punished for unlawful or unacceptable behavior but simply because they are of a different faith than Buddhists.
